Goated GG

Project overview

Goated GG aimed to redefine the digital gaming collectibles space by creating a platform for unique GamerClips, GamerCards, and GamerCoins. A key challenge was efficiently generating high-quality, dynamic visual content for these NFTs at scale. This project involved developing an innovative pipeline using Unreal Engine for real-time rendering and automated 3D asset creation, enhancing creative expression and user experience on the Goated.gg platform.

The Challenge

Traditional 3D rendering methods are often time-consuming and resource-intensive, posing a significant bottleneck for platforms needing to generate large volumes of unique, high-quality visual assets like NFTs. Goated NFT required a solution to rapidly create bespoke 3D visuals for GamerCoins and GamerCards, including incorporating custom logos, without compromising on quality or incurring massive rendering costs. The output also needed to be easily integrated into a web platform with transparency.

My Role

In my capacity Unreal Engine development experience, I played a key role in both the strategic design and technical implementation of the real-time rendering system. I designed the core architecture of the Unreal Engine template and oversaw/contributed to parts like logo extrusion, render output and its development

The Solution

To overcome the challenges of traditional rendering, we developed a bespoke technical solution centered around a master template project within Unreal Engine:

  • Real-Time Rendering Engine: An Unreal Engine project was configured to render visuals for both GamerCoins and GamerCards in real-time. This eliminated traditional render queues, drastically speeding up content creation while maintaining high visual fidelity.
  • Automated 3D Logo Extrusion: The system automatically processed black and white logo images provided by users or partners. These logos were then dynamically extruded into 3D geometry directly onto the surface of the GamerCoins within Unreal Engine, creating a unique, bespoke look for each asset without manual modeling.
  • Optimized Transparent Output: The pipeline was designed to rapidly render assets as PNG sequences or MOV files with transparent backgrounds directly from Unreal Engine. This allowed for seamless integration of the animated 3D coins and cards onto the Goated.gg website, creating a visually rich and immersive user experience.

Results / Outcome

This innovative Unreal Engine pipeline successfully provided Goated NFT with a highly efficient and scalable solution for generating unique, high-quality 3D visuals. Key outcomes included:

  • Drastically reduced content creation time compared to traditional rendering methods.
  • Enabled automated customization of NFTs with unique 3D logos.
  • Produced high-fidelity visuals suitable for a premium NFT platform.
  • Generated web-ready assets (transparent MOVs) for seamless website integration.
  • Demonstrated a novel approach to dynamic content generation in the NFT and gaming space.
